Her Story: Sheryl Swoopes

Three time Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) MVP, Sheryl Swoopes was the first player to be signed to the WNBA after its inception in 1996. The WNBA named Swoopes as the league’s “Top 15 Players of All Time”.

Swoopes won three gold medals at the Olympic games in Sydney, Athens, and Atlanta. She is the first female basketball player to have Nike shoe named after her, “Air Swoopes”. In 2016 Swoops was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Swoopes started a non-profit organization, Back To Our Roots, aimed at empowering and educating youth through sports and culture. Sheryl Swoopes a star on the court and off. Today we celebrate her!
