Oprah Gail Winfrey (January 29, 1954) is an American actress, philanthropist, talk show host, television producer, and media executive. She gained both a national and international following as the talk show host of The Oprah Winfrey Show. It is the highest-rated television program in history and was broadcast nationally from 1986 to 2011. At the show’s height of popularity, about 13.1 million U.S. viewers were watching daily. At one point The Oprah Winfrey show aired internationally in 140 countries.
Winfrey is North America’s first black multi-billionaire and was the richest African American of the 20th century. Perhaps most importantly, Winfrey has been ranked the greatest black philanthropist in American history. She is considered one of the most powerful and influential women in the world.
